Marcelo left the pitch in tears following the horrendous incident
Former Real Madrid left-back Marcelo left the pitch in tears after being sent off for what is being described by supporters as the ‘one of the worst injuries in football’. The 35-year-old was playing for Brazilian side Fluminense on Tuesday evening in the Copa Libertadores clash against Argentinos Juniors when the horrific incident occurred.
Mid-motion, Marcelo inadvertently stood directly on the leg of opponent Luciano Sanchez causing a full dislocation of the knee.
Local doctors from the Sanatorio Finochietto hospital are anticipating that Sanchez will be sidelined for eight to 12 months following the injury.
Replays of the squeamish event are not for the faint-hearted as you can immediately see the damage that is caused following the unfortunate collision.
Sanchez was left screaming on the pitch as he was instantly consoled by his team-mates while Fluminense players also offered their support.
