President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR signed into law student loan bill. The student loan bill will provide interest-free loans to Nigerian students in tertiary institutions.
With this bill signed into law, Nigerian students in higher institutions of learning will be able to gain more access to financial assistance.
Newsafriq earlier reported that the two chambers of the National Assembly passed the Students Loan Bill. The draft legislation sponsored by the speaker of the house of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, has the title ‘A Bill for an Act to provide for easy access to higher education for Nigerians through interest-free loans from the Nigerian Education Bank established in this Act with a view to providing education for all Nigerians and for other purposes connected thereto.’
The House passed the bill earlier last year and forwarded it to the Senate for concurrence.
With the Senate’s concurrence on the Bill, a clean copy was produced and transmitted to formal President, Muhammadu Buhari for assent but the formal administration did not signed the bill into law till its last day in office.
Today, being Nigeria democracy day, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed the bill to law as part of celebration to mark democracy day.
