Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, the celebrated actress affectionately known as Omosexy, has opened up about her intermittent breaks from Nollywood.
In a recent social media post, Omotola explained that she takes intentional breaks to relax, reflect, and rejuvenate after extended periods of work.
The 46-year-old star, who began her acting career at the age of 15, addressed fans’ curiosity about her periodic absences from the film industry. “I know many don’t understand why I step away from movies for a few years and then come back again!” Omotola wrote.
“I’ve seen fans asking when I’ll return to the screen, but when you’ve been working since 15 like I have… you’ll understand the need to relax, relive, relearn, and recharge. Who gets it and who’s following?”
Omotola made her Nollywood debut in 1995 as the leading actress in ‘Venom of Justice’ and has since become a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, appearing in over 300 films and earning numerous domestic and international awards.
In 2021, the award-winning actress relocated to the United States with her family. She is married to Matthew Ekeinde, and the couple celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary in March 2023.
In April 2022, Omotola advised couples not to be discouraged by stories of marital abuse, reminding them that good marriages still exist and encouraging those planning to marry not to be deterred by negative experiences.
