Bribery Scandal: FG vows to punish officers involved in Bobrisky’s alleged naira abuse prison saga
The Federal Government has pledged to take decisive action against any Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) officer found guilty in the alleged bribery case surrounding crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky. A viral video suggests that Bobrisky, sentenced to six months in prison for naira abuse, served his time outside the correctional facility after reportedly bribing NCoS officers.
During a press briefing in Abuja, Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, assured the public that no officer implicated in the case would be spared. He urged patience, emphasizing that the investigation would be thorough, transparent, and free from bias. “Let us allow the investigation to run its course, and be assured that no one will be shielded,” he declared.
While some suggest the case is specifically targeting Bobrisky, Tunji-Ojo refuted these claims, stating, “It is not just about Bobrisky.”
The scandal deepened after blogger Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, accused Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officers of accepting ₦15 million to drop money laundering charges against Bobrisky. In response, the Federal Government suspended several senior NCoS officers, including Deputy Controllers Michael Anugwa and Sikiru Adekunle, pending the outcome of the investigation.
