The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa as the legitimate President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), overturning a recent challenge by MC Oluomo’s faction.
This decision follows the inauguration of Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, as NURTW president just days ago. The appellate court upheld a March 11, 2024, ruling by the National Industrial Court, which recognized Baruwa as the rightful leader of the union.
The appeal, filed by Alhaji Najeem Usman Yasin, Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede, and their supporters, was dismissed by a three-member panel of justices, Hamma Akawu Barka, Nnamdi Dimgba, and Asmau Ojuolape Akanbi, who ruled it lacked merit.
In addition to confirming Baruwa’s leadership, the court ordered the appellants, aligned with MC Oluomo, to pay N100,000 in damages to the respondents.
